Why Talk About the Differential When the Rear Tires Are Already Sliding?
Because drifting is not simply about breaking traction. A RWD drift car still needs the rear axle to deliver power in a predictable way while the chassis is rotating. The differential is one of the components that shapes that behavior.
A limited-slip differential changes how freely the left and right rear wheels can rotate relative to each other. In a drift setup, the important question is not whether the differential is “good” or “bad.” It is how its locking response fits the surface, tires, and the way the driver uses throttle.

The XDX Self-Locking LSD
XDX uses a self-locking LSD structure on the rear axle. Its internal locking mechanism works together with interchangeable springs to change the differential’s locking response. That gives the rear drivetrain another tunable variable instead of treating the differential as one fixed behavior for every driver.
The XDX package includes four LSD tuning springs with different spring rates. Those rates give drivers a practical way to compare different locking responses. Because the exact effect depends on the complete setup, the most useful approach is to change one spring at a time and compare the car under consistent conditions.

What You Should Feel When You Tune an LSD
The useful way to approach LSD tuning is to focus on repeatable behavior. Pay attention to how the rear of the car reacts when throttle is added, how it carries angle, and how consistent it feels during transitions. Then change one spring setting and compare.
The exact “best” spring depends on the rest of the setup. Tires, surface, steering geometry, suspension, and driver technique all matter. That is why the XDX LSD is best understood as part of a system rather than a magic part that fixes every handling problem.
A Critical Material Detail: 7075 Is Used for the Outdrive Cups
One specification needs to be stated clearly. The entire XDX LSD is not made from 7075 aluminum. The 7075 aluminum component is the differential outdrive cup.
The outdrive cups sit at a key drivetrain connection point and are intended to balance low mass, strength, and durability. The distinction is important: “self-locking LSD” describes the differential function, while “7075 aluminum outdrive cups” identifies the material used for a specific component.
The Differential Is a Setup Tool, Not a Shortcut
For a new driver, the factory setup is the place to begin. Learn the car before changing the differential. Once your driving is repeatable, LSD tuning becomes much easier to understand because you can separate setup changes from driver inconsistency.
That is the bigger XDX idea again: start with a complete RWD platform, then unlock deeper tuning as your ability grows.
