The LSD Is Only One Part of the Rear Drivetrain
Differential tuning gets most of the attention because drivers can feel it, but the rear drivetrain works as a complete system. XDX combines its self-locking LSD with a mix of engineering-nylon and metal gears plus an adjustable aluminum motor mount.
The purpose is not to make the drivetrain complicated. It is to give the platform a practical baseline with enough room for later gearing and setup changes.

Four LSD Springs: One More Variable to Test
The XDX LSD uses four tuning springs with different spring rates. Changing the spring rate changes the locking response of the differential. That makes the LSD something the driver can test alongside tires, surface, suspension, and throttle technique.
As with every other setup variable, change one thing at a time. If the spring changes at the same time as the tire, motor position, and shock setting, it becomes almost impossible to understand which adjustment created the difference.

7075 Aluminum Differential Outdrive Cups
The differential outdrive cups are machined from 7075 aluminum. These are the parts that connect the differential to the rest of the drivetrain—not the entire differential case or LSD assembly.
At this key drivetrain connection, the material is intended to balance low mass, stiffness, and durability.

Engineering-Nylon Spur and Steel Pinion
The factory spur gear is a 48P 85T engineering-nylon gear. The factory pinion is a 48P 23T gear made from 45# steel. XDX also uses a 48P 52T rear drive gear and a 48P 28T synchronization gear in the drivetrain.
The engineering-nylon spur is used to balance precision, durability, and running noise. The steel pinion forms the first gear interface from the motor into the drivetrain, where consistent tooth engagement matters through repeated acceleration and deceleration.

Adjustable Aluminum Motor Mount
The aluminum motor mount supports 36-series motors and allows gear-mesh adjustment. The factory setup uses a 48P 23T pinion, while the adjustable range supports approximately 19–30T pinions.
That range gives experienced owners room to explore gearing later without changing the basic chassis. XDX provides the mechanical adjustment range, while the final gearing choice remains part of the overall motor, ESC, tire, surface, and driving setup.

Build a System, Not a Parts List
A drivetrain works best when every adjustment serves a goal. The LSD, pinion, spur gear, motor position, tires, and suspension all interact. The useful question is not “How many parts can I change?” It is “What am I trying to make the car do differently?”
That mindset is what turns XDX from an RTR drift car into a platform you can actually learn from.
