Securing the Official License: A Commitment to Engineering
Obtaining the official license from Mitsubishi was a rigorous, year-long process. As a young Chinese RC brand, RLAARLO underwent stringent evaluations to prove its capability to replicate a legendary WRC vehicle. The turning point in the negotiations occurred when RLAARLO submitted an early-stage engineering prototype—consisting of the initial chassis and body shell—directly to Mitsubishi's headquarters in Japan. The prototype's precise replication of the EVO's classic lines and the accuracy of the suspension structure demonstrated RLAARLO's deep understanding of rally culture and mechanical engineering, ultimately earning Mitsubishi's official approval.
Uncompromising R&D and Precision
Following the licensing agreement, the RLAARLO R&D team dedicated nearly another year to finalizing the engineering design. The development process involved overcoming significant technical challenges to meet Mitsubishi's exacting standards. To achieve millimeter-level accuracy for the iconic wide-body stance and aerodynamic lines, the engineering team compared their 3D models against Mitsubishi's original data over 50 times. Furthermore, the chassis underwent extensive testing on simulated rally tracks. The team iteratively refined the suspension system—specifically adjusting shock damping coefficients and spring rates across multiple design phases—to eliminate resonance and ensure optimal performance under extreme off-road conditions.
A Tribute to WRC Heritage
The original Mitsubishi EVO 6.5 TME was introduced to commemorate Finnish rally legend Tommi Mäkinen's four consecutive WRC championships from 1996 to 1999. RLAARLO’s 1:7 scale replica faithfully captures the essence of this "tarmac rally" icon. The model features the signature asymmetrical front bumper, which removes the fog lights to incorporate a specialized air intake on the left and a prominent front lip for optimized aerodynamics. It meticulously recreates the classic "Rally Red" exterior with white wheels, black side rally stripes, and authentic "Tommi Mäkinen Edition" markings. The factory-assembled model also includes a highly detailed interior featuring red and black Recaro bucket seats with "MAKINEN" embroidery, a red dashboard, and a full roll cage. Moving away from traditional body post designs, the durable 1.5mm thick PC body shell utilizes a specialized quick-release buckle structure. This ensures high-speed stability and vibration reduction while maintaining a flawless exterior. The premium painted finish is further enhanced by an advanced 8-mode linked lighting system, which includes low beams, high beams, turn signals, overtaking lights, hazard lights, reverse lights, brake lights, and backfire effects, with an optional spotlight upgrade available.
Competition-Grade Engineering
Underneath the highly detailed shell lies a robust engineering foundation. The 4WD electric rally car measures 646mm in length with a 374mm wheelbase and a 240mm track width. It features a 3mm thick 7075-T6 aviation aluminum chassis with laser-engraved patterns, providing excellent strength and heat dissipation for electronic components. To endure extreme terrains, the drivetrain is equipped with 40CrMn gears and 40Cr steel CVDs and dogbones, significantly reducing wear and maintenance costs. The suspension system boasts 5mm 7075 aluminum adjustable shock towers, CNC aluminum oil-filled shocks with a quick-release spring base, and front and rear sway bars to ensure stable cornering and mitigate rollovers. Additionally, the vehicle incorporates quick-release designs for the gearbox and upper suspension arms to simplify maintenance.
High-Performance Electronics
Power is delivered by a formidable 180A brushless ESC paired with a 4274-2050KV brushless motor. Drivers will maintain total command via the included 6-channel transmitter, which offers a 350-meter control range and features a built-in gyroscope. The gyroscope function enables flawlessly smooth cornering and drifting, allowing players to easily push the limits of the vehicle's performance.
